Women in Science Day was an exciting one day workshop event that brought approximately 100 young women plus teachers from six St. Louis City Public High Schools to Washington University (Danforth and Medical School campuses) for hands on activities, speakers, tours of facilities, and a career panel.

Some of the many activities included:

- Get Physical! – Physics, Electrify your Gel - Chemical Engineering
- Move Like a Primate – Anthropology

The Women in Science Day event combined the missions of the YSP and AWIS organizations to specifically extend science outreach to young women in the St. Louis public schools.

OTHER ITEMS OF NOTE:

To be updated soon...

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Science Center Lunch & Learn progam is looking for scientists to give informal talks during lunchtime. These talks can be about anything scientific (e.g., your research, your hobbies, your extracurricular interests). See current calendar at http://www.slsc.org/default.asp?V_DOC_ID=951. AWIS-St. Louis is considering sponsoring one speaker per month - could we sponsor you?

Consider getting involved with the Midwest Urban Girls Collaborative Project. We are kickstarting a number of community outreach projects and this is just the first!

Please email steer-awis-stl@yahoogroups.com if you have questions about any of these opportunities or want to know of other ways to be involved. Additional suggestions and steering committee members are always welcome!

AWIS, and AWIS events, is open to all women and men of the St. Louis scientific community concerned with promoting a positive environment for women in the larger scientific community, at all levels of scientific training, in all manners of scientific pursuit. To get involved in AWIS-STL and help with getting our events off the ground, contact Genevieve Croft, AWIS-STL Co-Secrerary at Croft@wustl.edu. We look forward to meeting you.
